In short

CatTower's favicon generator is a free online tool that turns one PNG, JPEG or WebP logo into a multi-size favicon.ico, PNG favicons, an Apple touch icon and PWA icons, with the matching HTML and web app manifest code, in your browser.

  • Input: one PNG, JPEG or WebP logo, up to 20 MB and 40 megapixels; SVG is not accepted.
  • Output: favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 px PNG images, favicon-16x16.png, favicon-32x32.png, apple-touch-icon.png (180 px), icon-192.png and icon-512.png, plus README.txt, in one ZIP.
  • Settings: Fit or Fill in a square, 0–30% padding, a transparent or colored background and a 0–50% corner radius, applied the same way to every file.
  • Each size is drawn directly from the original image, and favicon.ico is read back and checked before the ZIP is offered.
  • Privacy: the logo is processed in your browser and not uploaded to CatTower's servers.

Use cases

  • Add a favicon and an Apple touch icon to a new website from its logo.
  • Create the 192 and 512 px icons and the manifest icons list for a progressive web app.
  • Check how a logo reads at 16 and 32 px in a browser tab before publishing it.

How to use

  1. Drop or choose one PNG, JPEG or WebP logo of up to 20 MB and 40 megapixels.
  2. Pick Fit (the whole logo shows) or Fill (the square is filled and the edges are cut off), then set the padding (0–30%), a transparent or colored background and the corner radius (0–50%).
  3. Check the 16, 32, 180 and 192 px previews and the maskable safe area on the 512 px icon.
  4. Select Create icon set, download the ZIP and copy its files to your site's root folder.
  5. Copy the HTML into your page's head and the icons list into your web app manifest.

FAQ

No. The logo is opened, drawn at every size and zipped by your browser on your device. It is not uploaded to CatTower's servers, and its name, colors and settings are not sent anywhere. Anything else running on your device, such as extensions, is outside the site's control.

A real ICO file with three images inside: 16, 32 and 48 px, each stored as PNG, which every current browser reads. Before the ZIP is offered, the tool reads the icon back and checks that all three images are there with the right sizes and positions.

favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48 px), favicon-16x16.png, favicon-32x32.png, apple-touch-icon.png (180 px), icon-192.png, icon-512.png and README.txt with the HTML and manifest code. The ZIP is named after your logo with -favicon added.

Every size is drawn once, directly from your original image, with the browser's high-quality smoothing. Smaller icons are never made by shrinking a bigger icon again, so blur does not add up. Very thin lines and small text can still disappear at 16 px, which is why the real-size previews are shown before you create the set.

For browser tabs a transparent background usually looks best. Apple devices show the transparent parts of apple-touch-icon.png as black, so if your logo has transparent areas, the tool reminds you and you can pick a background color. The same settings apply to every file.

Android can cut an installed app's icon into a circle or another shape. The dashed circle on the 512 px preview shows the part that always stays visible (80% of the width). The tool does not make a separate maskable icon file; use padding to keep your logo inside the circle.

Not yet. SVG files can contain scripts and links to other files and are drawn differently between browsers, so the tool accepts PNG, JPEG and WebP only. Export your logo as a large PNG, ideally 512 px or more on each side.
